Indexes in the PressJune 10, 2007, The Washington Post, in a review of Diet for a Small Planet by Barbara Kingsolver (HarperCollins), "Alas, the book lacks an index." In the November 2006 issue of Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel magazine, in an article entitled "There's More to a Guidebook Than Its Cover". It suggests 6 parts to evaluate before purchasing a guidebook, including the brand name, edition and copyright, scope, author bio, and maps. The sixth suggestion is "Browse a book's index to get an overall sense of how thorough it is. Look in particular for topics that are important to you." From Last But Not Least: A Guide for Editors Commissioning Indexes, published by the Society of Indexers (U.K., 1998, available free to publishers), "A good author deserves a professionally produced index.
